OMODA & JAECOO SHS Hybrid Tests Show Real-World Fuel Efficiency Across Global Roads

As fuel costs remain a practical concern for drivers around the world, efficiency claims need to be supported

As fuel costs remain a practical concern for drivers around the world, efficiency claims need to be supported by more than laboratory figures. For customers choosing a family SUV or crossover, the real questions are simple: how far can the vehicle travel, how often will it need to refuel, and how consistently will it perform in different driving conditions?

OMODA & JAECOO has been testing its SHS Super Hybrid System across varied roads, climates, and elevations to provide clearer answers. The latest results include a demanding endurance drive in Ecuador, supported by earlier tests in Europe, Latin America, Southeast Asia, and other markets.

For UAE drivers, this focus on real-world efficiency is especially relevant. Daily commuting in Dubai, longer drives across the Emirates, summer temperatures, and weekend road trips all place different demands on a vehicle. A practical hybrid system should offer efficient everyday mobility without making long-distance travel complicated.

Ecuador Endurance Test Puts SHS Hybrid Technology to the Test

From March 28 to 30, 2026, OMODA & JAECOO completed a cross-terrain endurance test in Ecuador with the participation of five automotive media outlets and two celebrity KOLs.

The convoy included three JAECOO 7 SHS-P models and one OMODA 5 SHS-H. Starting in Quito, the vehicles travelled through Cuenca and Tena before reaching San Pablo. The route included high-altitude roads, continuous curves, and hot, humid conditions, allowing the SHS Super Hybrid System to be evaluated across a challenging mix of environments.

The JAECOO 7 SHS-P recorded a tested driving range of 1,340 km, with real-world fuel consumption of approximately 4.48 L/100 km. Based on the fuel-price calculation used for the test, travelling 1,000 km cost nearly 40% less than driving a comparable conventional petrol vehicle. For a driver covering 20,000 km per year, the estimated saving could reach approximately €800 to €1,000 annually.

The OMODA 5 SHS-H also demonstrated the practical value of hybrid technology for drivers who prefer a vehicle that does not need external charging. During the Ecuador test, it achieved a range of 1,001 km and fuel consumption of approximately 5.1 L/100 km.

This type of efficiency can make a noticeable difference for drivers who use their vehicle frequently. Whether the journey involves regular city traffic, highway commuting, school runs, or weekend travel, fewer fuel stops can help reduce running costs and make everyday ownership more convenient.

The two tested vehicles use different SHS configurations. In the JAECOO 7 SHS-P, the letter P refers to a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. In the OMODA 5 SHS-H, the letter H refers to a hybrid electric vehicle that does not require external charging.

More Than 100,000 km of Testing Across Different Markets

The Ecuador test forms part of a broader global testing programme. To date, 114 media outlets from 16 countries have participated in OMODA & JAECOO road tests, covering more than 100,000 km across different climates, road surfaces, and driving conditions.

The reported results show consistent long-range performance:

  • In Mexico, the tested combined range reached 1,613.1 km across changing elevations and varied roads.
  • In Southeast Asia, the vehicles achieved a tested range of 1,427 km in hot, rainy, and humid conditions.
  • Across seven European countries, the tested combined range exceeded 1,353 km on expressways, hilly routes, and historic city streets.
  • In Brazil, the tested range reached 1,453.9 km on tropical highland roads and winding routes.
  • In Poland, the vehicles achieved a tested range of 1,260 km in low temperatures and full-load conditions.

These tests reflect the practical priorities of hybrid SUV drivers. A longer combined range can mean fewer refuelling stops, more flexibility on intercity journeys, and greater confidence when travelling beyond familiar daily routes.

That matters in the UAE, where a vehicle may be used for short urban journeys during the week and longer road trips on weekends. Drivers expect comfort and efficiency in city traffic, but they also want the freedom to travel without constantly planning the next fuel stop.

JAECOO 7 Gains Ground in the European Plug-In Hybrid Market

The SHS range is also gaining attention in the European market. According to reporting by Autovista24 using EV Volumes data, the JAECOO 7 recorded 4,166 European plug-in hybrid deliveries in January 2026.

This represented a 4.1% share of the European PHEV market, placing the model second in the segment during the month. The result highlights growing customer interest in hybrid SUVs that combine efficient everyday use with the flexibility required for longer journeys.

OMODA & JAECOO has now expanded into 64 global markets across Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa, Latin America, and the Middle East. The brand’s increasing international presence reflects demand for vehicles that balance design, technology, comfort, and practical ownership costs.

Nine-Country Super Hybrid Marathon Delivers Further Results

OMODA & JAECOO continued its SHS testing programme with the HEV “Nine Countries Super Hybrid Marathon,” held in China on April 25 and 26, 2026.

The event brought together media representatives and KOCs from nine countries across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Africa, and South Asia. Participants drove three SHS-H models: the OMODA 5, JAECOO 5, and JAECOO 7.

The 625 km route included highways, urban roads, and lakeside sections. The vehicles were tested with air conditioning set to 23°C, while seat ventilation, navigation, and audio systems remained active. Under these real-world conditions, the participating vehicles recorded fuel-consumption figures as low as 3.4 L/100 km.

This latest test adds to a growing body of data showing how the SHS Super Hybrid System performs across a wide range of everyday situations. Rather than focusing only on technical claims, OMODA & JAECOO is demonstrating how hybrid efficiency can translate into lower fuel costs, fewer stops, and a more convenient ownership experience.

Efficient Hybrid Mobility for Modern Drivers

OMODA & JAECOO’s global testing programme shows why hybrid technology continues to attract drivers who want to reduce fuel use without limiting their travel plans.

From mountain roads in Ecuador and humid conditions in Southeast Asia to cold-weather driving in Poland and varied roads across Europe, SHS-equipped models have been tested across demanding environments. For drivers in Dubai and the wider UAE, the same priorities remain important: efficient commuting, reliable long-distance driving, smart technology, and a comfortable SUV experience.

OMODA & JAECOO is part of Chery Group, which ranked 233rd in the 2025 Fortune Global 500 and maintained its position as China’s leading passenger-vehicle exporter for the 23rd consecutive year. Through its growing Dubai presence, OMODA JAECOO offers UAE customers the opportunity to explore its latest models and learn more about available specifications and services.
