In just two years, JAECOO has achieved combined sales of 5,497 units in South Africa. This growth shows how quickly the brand has gained attention among drivers looking for SUVs that combine a premium feel with practical usability. While this milestone belongs to the South African market, it also reflects the wider global progress of JAECOO, a brand that is becoming increasingly relevant in regions such as the Middle East, including Dubai and the UAE.

JAECOO’s Growth from J7 to Hybrid Mobility

JAECOO’s journey in South Africa began with the J7, a stylish and well-equipped SUV designed to introduce customers to the brand’s urban off-road identity. With its confident design, advanced features, and versatile SUV character, the J7 created a strong foundation for JAECOO’s local presence.
The model helped position JAECOO as a fresh choice in the SUV segment, especially for drivers who want a vehicle that feels suitable for both city life and more adventurous journeys. This balance is also meaningful for UAE customers, where daily driving in Dubai, long highway routes, weekend trips, and comfort in demanding weather conditions all play an important role in choosing the right SUV.
Since the original J7 launch, JAECOO has expanded its South African offering with the J7 SHS plug-in hybrid and the compact J5. This move has allowed the brand to reach more customers by offering different SUV sizes, powertrain options, and levels of accessibility while keeping the design and technology focus that define JAECOO.
In 2025, JAECOO introduced the J7 SHS as its first plug-in hybrid SUV in South Africa. The model combines a turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering combined outputs of 255 kW and 525 N.m of torque. It also provides an all-electric driving range of up to 90 km and a total combined range of more than 1,200 km, giving drivers a strong mix of performance and long-distance usability.
Later in 2025, JAECOO strengthened its South African range with the introduction of the J5. As a compact SUV, the J5 brought the brand’s premium adventure positioning to a wider audience. It offered a more accessible and compact alternative to the J7 while maintaining the design-led and feature-rich approach that has become central to JAECOO’s identity.
The next step for the South African line-up is the J5 HEV, which is set to join the range this year. This upcoming hybrid model will continue JAECOO’s push into electrified mobility. According to the original announcement, the J5 HEV is expected to offer fuel consumption as low as 5.3L/100 km and a driving range of more than 1,000 km on a single tank of fuel.
Hans Greyling, General Manager for OMODA & JAECOO South Africa, described the J7 as the brand’s strong starting point and noted that the J7 SHS and J5 have helped broaden its appeal. He also highlighted the upcoming J5 HEV as the next phase of JAECOO’s journey in South Africa.
JAECOO’s two-year progress in South Africa reflects a clear product strategy built around distinctive design, modern technology, and a line-up that continues to evolve with customer needs.
