The JAECOO J7 has reached an important milestone in one of Europe’s most competitive automotive markets. According to the latest figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the SUV became the UK’s best-selling new car in March 2026, with 10,064 registrations during the month.
The result marks the first time the JAECOO J7 has reached the top of the monthly UK sales chart. It follows a period of steady growth for the model, which has consistently appeared among the country’s ten best-selling new cars since September 2025.
By the end of March, the JAECOO J7 had recorded 15,569 registrations in the UK since the beginning of 2026, placing it among the country’s most popular new cars of the year so far. JAECOO also confirmed a total of 12,034 brand registrations during March, with the J7 accounting for the majority of those sales.
Strong Demand for the JAECOO J7 SHS Plug-in Hybrid
A major part of the JAECOO J7’s UK success has come from growing interest in electrified SUVs. In March, 85% of JAECOO J7 sales were for the SHS-P plug-in hybrid version, which uses the brand’s Super Hybrid System.
The strong performance of the plug-in hybrid model reflects changing expectations among SUV buyers. Many drivers are looking for vehicles that offer the flexibility of a petrol engine alongside the ability to complete shorter journeys using electric power. The larger JAECOO 8 is also set to strengthen the brand’s SUV offering in the UK. Available in Executive six-seat and Luxury seven-seat configurations, the flagship model is offered exclusively with an all-wheel-drive SHS-P powertrain. The UK version provides more than 700 miles of combined range, including up to 83 miles of electric-only driving, together with fast-charging and self-charging capability.
